“Made In New Haven” Gets The City’s Stamp of Approval

madeinnh_-_2_720_498_88_sha-100The northeastern region of the United States is home to some of the most highly recognized colleges and universities in the country.  Institutions like Yale University and the University of New Haven have, for many years, served as incubators for fresh and innovative thinking and ideas.  However with so much competition to entice the great minds of the world out of our area, it has been a concerted mission for city officials to encourage the innovators of our time to keep their ideas and their businesses in New Haven.

A new initiative by city officials is aiming to make a statement about the environment for businesses to stay and innovate here in the city.  The initiative called “Made In New Haven” allows business owners who produce or sell their products in New Haven or create products that are about New Haven to include a “Made In New Haven” logo either on their products, packaging, or website.

The new logo is designed to signal to new and existing businesses, as well as to consumers, that New Haven is a city filled with businesses of all sizes that bring great ideas to life.

Participating businesses will be able to use the new logo in all of their marketing materials.  Being a part of this initiative will also give businesses, both small and large, an opportunity to participate in a closed Facebook group designed to build community among the New Haven owned and operated businesses.

The logo for this initiative was designed by local artist Kelly Bigelow Becerra who drew inspiration from the city’s graphic design past and ultimately chose a design that would set itself apart from some of the other logos for the city.  The final design can be seen in the photograph above.

In some small way this new initiative will help the city of New Haven compete with other similarly sized city’s across the country who are vying for the bright, innovative minds who are getting ready to set up shop and deliver the next big idea to the world.
